Daxinshan Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Daxin Mt. of the Zulin Country, Simao County, Yunnan Province (100°20′, 22°51′). It was named by the Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources of Yunnan Province in 1990.
Lithology and Thickness
Clastics. All the rocks of the formation have commonly been slightly metamorphosed. Lower part of the formation represents grey-green, light-grey sericite-phyllite, albite-chlorite phyllite, intercalated with sericite-quartz-schist, and metamorphosed clastic sandstone. Upper part of the formation consists of dark-grey phyllitic sericite-slate, silty sericite-slate and sandy slate, intercalated with light-grey lithic feldspar-rich sandstone, lithic sandstone and basic volcanics. The top part of the formation is composed of limestone. Thickess up to 4000 m (see Regional extent).
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
No base of the formation has been found. Regionally, the next older might be the Bahiu Fm.
Upper contact
Yangbazhai is the next younger unit regionally.
Regional extent
Distributed in the Daxin Mt. of Simao County, Monghui River area of Lancang County and Manxiu River area of Jinghong County in a S-N-trending belt, and it is getting thinner from north to south. At the No. 73 highway Maintenance Squad of Jinggu County in the northern part of the region this formation is composed of grey and dark-grey sandstone and slate, intercalated with many layers of chert-bearing limestone, sandy conglomerate and intermediate and basic lavas, with a thickness of 604.5 m. In the Daxin Mt. area of Simao County the thickness of the formation is as great as 4063.7 m. In the area of Manxiu River of Jinghong County in the southern part of the region the formation is composed of sandy slate and clay slate, polymictic sandy conglomerate, intercalated with limestone and many layers of intermediate-acidic volcanics, with a thickness of 784-1715 m.

The top limestone yields Fusulinida represented by Yabeina sp., Neoschwagerina craticulifera, Verbeekina heimi, V. crassispira, Chusenella sp.; and Corals such as Waagenophyllum sp., etc.
